The village pub, the whitewashed Sun Inn, dates from 1711. The Sun is a traditional Lakeland inn with stone floors and roaring fires in the winter, it began life as a row of cottages, the occupants of one of them served beer to travellers from a front room.
Our Head Chef runs our kitchen and produces our seasonal menu sourcing local produce to give you the best in pub classic dishes without any twists just how it is simple and classics - home cooked traditional dishes.
We also have a weekly specials board again using local seasonal produce, this is where there may be a twist or two, we use local game from Cartmel valley & our meat is sourced from the Cumbrian fells.
Very friendly. Unbelievable how great they are to dogs. Most dog friendly pub ever - box of blankets and toys ready and waiting. Oh and Great food and drinks.
Stopped over on Brit Stop. Fabulous cozy pub and the home cooked food was amazing. Would highly recommend a visit and we’ll definitely be going back.

***INTRODUCING OUR NEW CHEF*** - GABOR HORVATH
We are overjoyed to share that he will be stepping into our kitchen this week.
Hailing from the enchanting city of Budapest, Gabor made his way to the UK in 2006. He began his culinary journey at Terre A Terre in Brighton before relocating to what he lovingly describes as the most picturesque place in England: The Lake District. Now residing in Kendal with his family and two delightful dogs, Gabor embraces the art of cooking alongside his passions for hiking and exploring the breath-taking lakes. When time permits amidst the joyful chaos of raising two young children, he also enjoys the occasional game of football.
As our cherished customers and devoted followers, I am certain you join us in wishing him success in his new endeavour, where he will unveil delightful specials to complement our timeless menu, infused with his unique touch.
